part iii: jurassic park

OVERVIEW

1. APPLE is now a gigantic tropical paradise. The boundaries are almost limitless; if your character decides to run as fast and far as they can in one direction, eventually they will come around to the other side again. The sky-ceiling is about 30-40 meters high. (According to Wikipedia, the tallest dinosaur ever recorded is the Sauroposeidon, who reached a height of about 18 meters.)

2. While the event is named after the novel and film, "Jurassic" Park, ANY creature from any time period within the Mesozoic Era (which consists of the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods) has the ability to appear in the room. This is strictly up to you -- if you are only familiar with the Tyrannosaurus or the Stegosaurus, feel free to have your character harassed only by one of those. If you're pretty much a paleontologist in the making, go crazy with them (but it would be a good idea to link to appropriate informatory articles or explain about a creature if you're confusing everyone else).

3. If a dinosaur/other creature is killed, their death will be treated like a character's -- that is, they will be brought into BANANA, CHERRY, or MANGO, but without the delay in limbo. However, it is important to note that the Death Rooms will remain in their original forms and not be changed into tropical paradises. If necessary, their sizes will adjust to accommodate the dinosaurs. With the death scare over, dinosaurs will now simply disappear if killed.

4. If, for some reason, you and another player encounter conflicts regarding the behaviour of the dinosaurs or the legitimacy of a fight, remember the golden rule of Appled -- the logic is a lie.

part i: death scare

OVERVIEW

Starting now, a character's death will result in the following:

1. The character will be taken into 'limbo', where they cannot physically move or perceive anything around them but darkness, but still maintain a conscious mental state, for approximately 24 hours or more.

2. After the limbo stage has passed, the character will be taken via vortex into one of THREE separate 'Death' Rooms, each flawlessly identical to the original Room with the exception that it will be either empty or occupied by other characters who have died. The names of the now four Rooms in existence, given only in order to differentiate between groups, are as follows: APPLE (original 'Life' Room), BANANA, CHERRY, and MANGO.

• There is no requirement for which of the Death Rooms your character will end up in. You may choose by rolling dice, random draw, which fruit you like better, or just which contains the more entertaining selection of dead characters. Ideally, they should be taken to the Room that contains the least number of people your character is friends or acquaintances with, to fully take advantage of the scare.

3. If the character dies a second time in their Death Room, they will again be taken into limbo for a minimum of 48 hours, before being dropped into a different Death Room. This applies to all subsequent deaths, with an additional 24 hours in limbo added each for the third, fourth, etc.

INTERACTION

4. For the duration of the event, a deceased character will not be able to return to APPLE or contact the occupants in the other Dead Rooms under any circumstances. In turn, the remaining living characters in APPLE will not be able to contact deceased characters in any way, and the character's journal will appear to be deleted just as if they had been dropped.

5. Journal interaction may be done only within a single Room, and to minimize confusion, all deceased characters are required to have "[ FILTER: NAME OF DEATH ROOM ]" into the subject line of their entry. Those without this subject line will be presumed still alive and in APPLE.

6. AIM-wise, three additional IC chats will now be put into use along with appledoom: bananadoom, cherrydoom, and mangodoom. (You may feel free to lurk in them as an observer at any time.)

Beginning at 12:00 AM Appled time, one wall of the Room will crumble and enable access to the rest of Hogwarts castle.

Was it supposed to have been destroyed? Yes. Is this all an illusion? Perhaps.

The castle will be almost completely devoid of life. Still present are the ghosts, statues, paintings, and the usual House Elves. (The paintings throughout will disallow entrance without a password into certain areas of the castle, at the player's discretion.)

All attempted wishes will instead instigate a flood of squawking rubber chickens. Just as it is impossible to escape the room, all attempts to access the various exits and/or hidden passageways to the outside leave the grounds past the gates will be denied. [Edited; it is now possible to access the Quidditch pitch, greenhouses, lakeside, and parts of the Forbidden Forest.]

If you are unfamiliar with Harry Potter canon and have certain questions about the layout of the castle, do not hesitate to ask other players or the mods. If you still feel you do not require enough knowledge on the matter, you may choose to opt out with a mysterious barrier that prevents your character from leaving the room still. However, you are encouraged to take part. It is merely an old magic castle; do with it what you will.

Everyone will be transported via vortex back into the Room of Requirement at 11:59 PM the same day. As per usual, feel free to backdate logs.
